FPCAP 3rd National Convention

The Family and Pastoral Counselling Association of the Philippines, in partnership with the Integrated Professional Counselors Association of the Philippines (IPCAP), successfully the held the FPCAP’s 3rd National Convention last November 18 to 20, 2010 at the Saint Paul University-Quezon City, Aurora Boulevard, Quezon City. This was the first partnership of the two associations with members of the helping professions.

With the theme Tending the flock: A call to proactive pastoral care ministries it was highlighted with the presence of former Department of Justice Secretary Atty. Agnes SVT Devanadera as the Convention’s Keynote Speaker. FPCAP President Dr. Alda Perlita S. Polestico and IPCAP Chairperson Fr. Bernardo R. Collera, SVD both gave their Opening Remarks. Participants from the convention were licensed guidance counselors, family counselors, as well as pastoral workers in the field.

FPCAP - De Paul House on Human Formation

The Vincentian Congregation (CM) in partnership with the Family and Pastoral Counselling Association of the Philippines has launched an ongoing program of Human Formation for seminarians residing at the De Paul House, Tandang Sora, Quezon City.

Introducing FPCAP's newest program is the Psychosocial Enrichment Module for Seminary Formation (PSEMSF) to assist those in the formation particularly in areas of psychological and social development of prospective priests and missionaries. Launched last July 10, the PSEMSF consists of 18 modules good for twice a month, three-hour session during the entire school year. The said tie-up was initiated by Fr. Dennis Abuel, CM who presented the idea to FPCAP President Pearl Polestico during a meeting held last May 2010. Ms. Tetchie Viduya, FPCAP Treasurer serves as the Co-Chair for this Formation Program.

Sowing seeds in Pastoral Ministry for hotel employees

Facing the many challenges in pastoral ministry to reach out to various sectors in the community, FPCAP was invited by hotel owner, Ms. Marie P. Ao and Mr. Jonathan Ramos, HR Head to give a seminar-workshop for hotel workers at Sta. Rosa City, Laguna. This was held last July 3, 2010 at the Technopark Hotel, Autopark, Greenfield City.

Entitled Integrating Self-Care in the Workplace the one-day activity was attended by the different hotel departments and their respective supervisors. FPCAP President Pearl S. Polestico was the main resource speaker for the said event. Serving as co-facilitators in the workshop were Analyn Roquita M. Ripotola and Margot U. Ripol.

2010 FPCAP Board Planning Session

The current FPCAP Board led by its President, Dr. Alda Perlita S. Polestico, held an overnight planning session last June 5 to 6 in Nasugbu, Batangas. This move was initiated by the previous officers of the FPCAP to set an annual planning in order to calendar the various program of activities for FY 2010 to 2011.

The planning session was attended by Maureen N. Sandejas (First Vice President), Gilda L. Baquiran (Secretary), Teresita E. Viduya (Treasurer), Elmerando T. Mores, Virgilio Andres Panlasigui, Erlinda I. Payno (Board Members), and Mary Jane R. Jose (Appointed Assistant Secretary). They were also joined by April Casono and Joy Dee, active founding member of FPCAP. The planning session was capped by the presentation of the annual plan for each of the standing committees.

FPCAP 3rd Enrichment Seminar

The recently held Third Enrichment Seminar inspired various participants who attended the six-day-event at the Saint Vincent School of Theology in Tandang Sora, Banlat, Quezon City. Diverse topics ranging from counseling theories, constructivism in guidance and counseling, counselors competencies in psychological testing, philosophical tenets, life-span career counseling and the counselor as group work specialist presented challenges in the counseling practice that brought such realization that counseling indeed is a personal ministry and a calling.

FPCAP invited the following resource speakers namely; Fr. Teodulo Gonzales, SJ, Prof. Avelina Mandin, Dr. Rosa Maria Llanes, Ms., Belina Cuevas and Ms. Delia Laguyo, and Mr. Elmer Mores. FPCAP President Dr. Alda Perlita Polestico, Ms. Maureen Sandejas, and Ms. Teresita Viduya were there to welcome the participants and served as moderators during the entire seminar series. At the end of the week long seminar the participants had their Closing Ceremonies capped by singing, personal testimonies, and the awarding of six certificates for each participant.

3rd Enrichment Seminar Program announced

The FPCAP will hold its 3rd Enrichment Seminar Program on May 17 to 22, 2010 at the Saint Vincent School of Theology, Tandang Sora Avenue, Quezon City. Lined up are interesting topics for you to keep abreast of what is going on in the the counseling field. This program will also serve as a refresher course for those who are preparing to take the board exam this August 2010. The Enrichment Seminar Program is a package seminar consisting of 6 topics to be implemented for 6 consecutive days from 8 AM to 5 PM. It shall cover the following topics:

  • May 17 Counselor Know Thy Theories in Practice
  • May 18 Constructivism in Counseling and Guidance Management Services
  • May 19 Psychological Testing Competencies for School Counselors
  • May 20 Integrating Sophie's World in Counseling Practice
  • May 21 Career Counseling Over the Life Span
  • May 22 The Counselor as a Group Work Specialist

Fees for the Package Seminar are the following: Early Bird (Until May 11) - PHP 5,000 and On-Site - PHP 5,500. The said amount will cover certificate, snacks, meals, facilitators' fee, and handouts. The maximum number of participants in the said seminar will be limited to 30 people. Since this seminar will apply problem-based learning, the said number will be good enough for demonstration activities.

FPCAP Day & 1st Annual Membership Assembly

On March 13th, FPCAP shall have its members and colleagues gathering to celebrate FPCAP Day as a feting event of its founding two years ago. This special day coincides with the 1st Annual Membership Assembly mandated in our FPCAP By-Laws and Constitution where members and possible recruits come together, renew our ties and build camaraderie. To be held at Saint Joseph Freinademetz Hall, Christ the King Seminary at E. Rodriguez Avenue, Quezon City (1 to 5PM).

Seminar on Attachment Disorders & Therapy

In establishing its ties with other institutions, FPCAP this time sealed such partnership with the Alliance Graduate School of Theology as it presented a relevant yet seldom discussed topic on Attachment Disorders and Therapy. The seminar was held last January 16, 2010 (9AM to 1PM) in the AV Room of the Alliance Graduate School in Quezon City. Practitioners, counselor educators, pastors, clergy and graduate students flocked to listen to seminar speaker Dr. William T. Kirwan, a tireless pastoral educator and counselor from the USA doing rounds of seminars and workshops in Asia and the Pacific.
